Our Story

Wind River Chandlers

Rooted in the Heart of Wyoming

Nestled in the Wind River Mountain Basin of Lander, Wyoming, we craft soaps and candles that capture the rugged beauty and enduring spirit of the American West. Our philosophy is simple — quality above all. Every batch is handmade using the richest, most premium ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible. The result is a product that embodies genuine care, craftsmanship, and respect for the land we call home.

The Spirit of the Bison

We chose the Bison as our symbol because it represents strength, endurance, and a sacred bond with nature. The ancient bison cave art woven into our brand honors our ancestors—those who brought light to darkness and art to life. Every purchase helps protect this heritage: a portion of each sale supports the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative, aiding in the restoration of bison to Native lands and preserving their legacy for generations to come.

Rediscovering the Ancient Art of Tallow

Our journey took a remarkable turn when we rediscovered tallow—a timeless ingredient once prized by ancient civilizations. Used since the Bronze Age, tallow was cherished for its purity, nourishment, and healing power. Unlike modern synthetics, tallow naturally protects, repairs, and balances your skin. Inspired by this ancient wisdom, we began blending tallow with herbs, oils, and botanicals to create soaps, salves, and creams that truly transform the skin.

From Our Home to Yours

What began as a simple soap soon evolved into luxurious creams and our signature “do-it-all” face cream—a product we use every day because it feels incredible and delivers visible results. Each product is made with intention, tradition, and love—crafted by hand, from our home to yours.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Every Wind River Chandlers product is made in small batches with premium, natural ingredients sourced locally in Wyoming.

Why is my vessel candle tunneling?

Short burns create tunneling. Reach full melt pool with each burn to ensure it burns evenly.

This is called “blooming”. It’s a sure sign your candle is made with natural waxes, especially beeswax. Paraffin candles do not bloom. Blooming and frosting is completely normal and doesn’t effect its performance.

This is completely normal ijn organic natural candles. This usually happens when it goes from a cooler room to a warmer room. If this happens place your candle in a cooler area Sweating wont effect your dcandles performance and will usually subside.

Our candles do not soot. They burn cleanly and evenly. If your candle is puffing soot, this is caused by too long a wick and carbon buildup at the tip. Bloy your candle out and trim wick. Re-light your candle or let rest.

Most likely the wick was cut too short. Blow the candle out and soak up a bit of wax using a paper towel. Re-light or repeat if necessary to achieve a brighter flame

Bring Home the Spirit of the Wind River Basin

The inspiration behind Wind River Chandlers.
Shane wanted to make a homemade leather conditioner and through research, discovered that tallow was the perfect ingredient to re-hydrate and condition leather.
From there we added beeswax for waterproofing and decided to make our salve!  Wind River Chandler’s was born because the product was so amazing and inspiring.  We knew others would benefit from its many uses beyond salve or leather conditioner.  Through further research, we discovered tallow candles lit homes, castles and monasteries for millennia!  Tallow candles date back to at least 500 BCE to Ancient Rome.
Beeswax candles date back to ancient Egypt and didn’t become widely used because of their expenses.  Only the wealthy could afford them. We decided to combine these two ancient ingredients to make a truly unique and clean burning candle line.  Modern candles are made from paraffin wax which is a petroleum by-product.  We wanted to offer something cleaner and go back to what our ancestors used.
Tallow soaps also date back to antiquity and are much more natural than today’s mass-produced soaps.  Tallow makes an amazing soap, salve and face cream because it’s very high in vitamins A, D, E and K.  It is sustainable and makes a hard, long lasting and creamy lather that hydrates, rejuvenates and protects skin.
We hope you enjoy the products we make with love, research, testing and commitment to quality and the roots of our ancestors.
